asimosdrakos========This is something I would like to see the "The History Channel: do some research on. But that will never happen. The LDS would stop
it. BTW I am LDS. My great, great grandfather Lorenzo Dow Young was Brigham Young's brother.

My Great Great Grandparents Charles and Suzannah Bladen had an illigitimate daughter Sarah (1843) who married Thomas Bennet, a member of the LDS, covnerted to
his faith and they emigrated from UK to Provo Utah about 1870. They had a hard life and she died from gangrene and losing a leg after stepping on a rusty nail.
I believe their descendant are leading members of the LDS now.

judged to harshly for using the word "if" in this topic . if i KNEW the truth of these things as a matter of fact ,I WOULD SCREEM IT FROM THE
ROOFTOPS . and i think everyone that knows me , knows that i would .///bob

Kanabite===========As far as I am concerned anyone on here can say as they please about religion. One of my D.I's. told us something about religion that I
have by ever scenic then. He said "I don't care if a man gets up at 5am and worships a doorknob that faces east. If that makes that man feel better
then don't knock it".

o I'm not knocking it , that one book is full of stories about the ancient inhabitants and treasures . metal bows , swords , armor , and it is suppose to
have happened in this land . i am a treasure hunter and i really want to know . i want to know if it happened like that book says it did , and i am sorry i
just can't take somebodies word for that . the truth is out there about these things . one way or the other and if it is possible , with the help of
almighty god i will find those answers , someday , maybe , or maybe not . there are lots of variable in this quest , and lots of differing opinions about this
proof of the ancients ,but i want the truth no matter what that truth might be .so far it has eluded me .....

Kanabite, thanks for your response. However I am not clear if you are saying we should accept that the things described in BoM as "wonders of the
Lord" because that's what the book says and faith dictates we believe it to be so or if you want factual evidence to explain what is described. One
thing you do make clear is that you want to KNOW. And so do I, in fact all members here are here because they want to know.

man i dunno , i have heard these things explained in terms like this before . i have always thought that the proof about what is written may someday be found
. although if proven , still many would not believe and by the same token if disproved somehow,[and again i said if ], those who believe firmly could not be
swayed... there are things described in that book that are beyond comprehension , like for lack of a better word , telekinesis to the scientific mind . they
say with God , nothing is impossible , and i feel that way to. but they also say the glory of God is intelligence and somehow we associate intelligence in
this time with our own technology. that kind of thinking can at times be a double edge sword . i don't know how smart it was for man to build things like
the hydrogen bomb. If God made all things on this earth then maybe these questions should be for him to answer, after all i am not in the position to say you
are right or wrong . but i will continue to look for evidences of the ancient inhabitants of this land doing things , that i can't explain how they did,
until the day i find some answers. if i ever find any records and ya i believe in the existence of records then i will have to let you know . what you are
saying about ancient technologies has merit , because anything is possible i guess . but if it is true , the things that are written , i would have to guess
that it is somehow beyond a technological explanation , something much greater perhaps. somebody with a better understanding of these things might want to
step in here and say something ,because i told you this is kind of hard for me to talk about

kanabite wrote: Hey Kanabite, I don't claim to have a "better understanding" than anyone but I can share what I think I understand. I am an active member of
the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day saints. I also have a degree in biology and believe in Science. I believe ALL things written in the Book of Mormon to
be true but I do not understand everything, nor can I explain everything. I also believe in the bible and I believe that, for example, when Christ walked on
the water...we call it a miracle because we can't explain it but I think Christ used natural laws of physics with which we are not (yet) familiar. I think
if the Jesuits, for example, had a chance to look to the future (in our day and age) and saw cars and planes and electricity and computers, etc....they would
think it was a miracle because they could not explain it. The laws of science that govern these items were not known in the time of the Jesuits and yet they
are considered mundane and ordinary to us. Please do not think I am belittling Christ and his miracles - it's just that the things I don't understand I
don't necessarily write them off as false. In the Book of Mormon we read:

Vedfrenn...you seem to be getting my drift there. If we found references to cars and planes in, say, a medieval manuscript, (or Ezekiel's flying machine in
the Old Testament) we would either declare it a fake or reckon something +#%#% was going on (or "dismiss" it as a miracle). So even if Joseph Smith
wrote the books himself the fact that he describes, what to us, are fairly mundane bits of kit, must strike us as odd. If he really deciphered ancient plates
from ancient times that described such objects, that would seem even odder. Only today I tried to explain mobiles phones to my old mother and said "I
dunno, it seems like a miracle to me" and that's only one generation away. Without a lot more research we cannot "know", but I will continue
to search for evidence of lost technologies in myths and legends. Another example...in Homer's Ilead the god Hephaestus is described as having constructed
metal three-legged tables that waited on him, served him drinks at his command...does that sound like domestic robotics to you?
p.s/ I think we should apologise to Alan for getting a long way from his original puzzle about the Sutton Hoo helmet. |
