Just a little "Levity" |
Lead | |
|
Alright gentlemen (and the few ladies that frequent this sight) I am going to share a picture of a petroglyph that is a part of my personal collection. I
KNOW what the glyphs mean (one of the few I can translate). I just want to get some of you guys with your great sense of humor to give
a stab at the translation. Remember - this is for fun.

Good News Guys n Gals! The serpent's plan worked, the people have gone so we just can relax and enjoy the Garden of Eden without any more trouble.

Generally, the presence of goats, deer, sheep or other representations of quadrupeds indicate a movement. In this case a movement was undertaken to seek one
of knowledge, represented by the larger and perhaps older 'goat' on the right who is shown meeting, or greeting the travelers. They, the travelers,
have come here to receive knowledge or information of some sort however the snake, with his forked tongue, has arrived before them and the information may not
be accurate.

Ah,But!! The serpent is generally recognised as the bearer of knowledge, so perhaps the Old Goat is actually introducing the guest speaker at the monthly meeting of Vertebrates United. (Subject: "Terrestrial Ambulation:the limbless option") |

Thanks for taking a stab at this guys. As you can tell, it is neither pecked, scratched or carved (the usual process for Native American Rock Art). Allow me to
preface this by saying that I know a lot of you gentlemen have daughters and they are "Daddies girls" just like me. My father used a diamond tip
drill bit to make this for me.
The Story: when I was going through stage 3 cancer, after the many surgeries, chemo and radiation, I decided to take some time off and spend it with family in St. George, Utah. I have always liked to hike and I went out to the Ivins area and was introduced to my first petroglyphs and have been hooked and fascinated ever since. I have photographed THOUSANDS of images from Missouri westward. My father recognized my passion and made this panel for me. His explanation: The sheep on the right is me, the four other sheep are my four sons and the snake...well, it's my ex who left us after 20 years of marriage and half way through the chemo treatments. He left while the boys were at school and never said goodbye. He never calls or writes to our sons. Anyway...I am a daddies girl and I think this gives his opinion of his ex-son-in-law! I hope you fathers out there can see the humor in this! VJ |

Being the Dad of a fantastic daughter and the Grandad-to-be of twin boys I can only empathise with your family and I reckon if that had been me it
wouldn't have been a piece of slate I'd have used the drill on....more likely the snake's butt!!

Hey Asimosdrakos - congratulations on the future twin grand sons. I love my four sons deeply. They are so much fun and sure are good to me. Good luck to your
daughter. VJ

I've got a grand daughter in the hospital right now, today, expecting her first son come hell or high water. Lets see, that'll make 1 wife, 7 children,
14 grand children, and 3 great grand children counting todays delivery. If I can still count that makes 25 birthdays worth of presents and then there is the
granddaddy of all of them, Christmas, and I can only claim one on my income tax. You wonder why I hang out here on the forum looking for treasure clues?

Wow Herb, congrats on the growing family! I have always felt some people are more deserving of finding treasure than others because they would use it for good
(not selfishly). We all know money can change people for the worse but it can also allow us to be charitable and care for our own. Unlike Obama who has a 1/2
brother living on $1 a month (or week...whatever) who seems to be forgotten.
Herb I wish you all the luck in the world in finding whatever you need to take care of your family. If you find something though, I would like to hear about the adventure that lead you there. I think that is so much a part of the fun. VJ |
