Lost Knowledge | ||
kanabite your take on it isn't wrong, I think. What we have been
taught as history is wrong. I have learned that everything I was taught as a lad in school history wise - is horribly wrong! From the start to now.
And I mean EVERYTHING! Math is the only thing I think they didn't lie about... and sometimes I'm not too sure about that either. Try doing "new math" with a fifth grader...LOL Ain't the way I was taught......... I enjoy the pictures. Nothing that I'll ever be chasing after - but I do enjoy the history lessons! And I do appreciate all the hard work involved. You all know so much more than I. I am humbled by your collective knowledge. |

Hi kanabite,
Stuff I simply googled up. Might add to the story. Jeannine Davis-Kimball, an American expert on the ancient peoples of Central Asia, said: "The cup is stunning, just stunning. The heraldic snakes relate to the iconography found in eastern Iran, especially during the early Elamite period." https://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/uk/article4016077.ece The fascinating bronze snake with his human prey in his mouth (no. 47) is also a Middle Elamite work. Snakes abound in Elamite art, in reliefs, seals and bronzes, but this one is unique in displaying his half-swallowed meal. http://www.anaviangallery.com/ancient_iranian_preface.html The Sumerians migrated to the region of Ur most likely from the east, from the drying-up highlands of Iran, or possibly from the Indus Valley, to establish the first large city civilization. The origin of the Elamites of Southwest Iran is completely unclear. The Sumerian language is not related to any language spoken today. Elamite probably also bears no relation to living languages, but not enough of it is known to be certain. The cultural development or Sumer and Elam ran parallel. A script was in use in Elam (Kerman) simultaneous to the first pictorial writing in Ur (3000 B.C.). Temple structures in both areas had the same ziggurat form, the man-made mountain reminiscent of their highland origins. Many cultic and religious habits were the same throughout Mesopotamia; the snake cult of Elam however was distinct and foreign. The cultural development or Sumer and Elam ran parallel. the snake cult of Elam{I thought this was interesting} http://elamhistory.hyperduck.net/elam_mesopotamia.htm

Hey guys, I is dumber than the dirt that is on the rocks that is in the box.
If it wasn't for Google I wouldn't know nothing at all. You cans google too if you has a computer with an internet connection. Does anyone here have a computer with an internet connection? I found this of interest. ELAM, pronounced e-lum, has a long and proud history. The name dates back to the days of Noah, whose grandson was named ELAM. From him, his offspring and followers, the ELAMITES, emerged into the great nation of ELAM, which is now modern day Iran. ELAM and the ELAMITES were a strong and powerful nation. Their rule lasted for nearly 5000 years. http://elamhistory.hyperduck.net/index.htm Elam In The Bible http://elamhistory.hyperduck.net/in_the_bible.htm (:X |

I may have missed the boat on this post but......
|
I still have a theory. I think it represents the triumph of the "native" over the " European White Man". Just look at the figures....The
figure on top of the horse, both figures.....the elongated forehead, the spear and the primitive style clothing. All characteristics of a "Native
warrior". Now let us look at the man being trampled by the horse. The elongated chin - which to me represents "Royal Blood". Why - It is well
known that one of the negative physical characteristics of in-breeding is the elongation of the chin. Most Royal families in many European countries married
"within" thus many long chins in the historical royal family trees. The man is also clearly holding a sword, not a spear AND he is in what appears to
be chain mail.
In conclusion, much more than 50 words, if this is the helmet of a "Native" warrior...perhaps scenes of victory over the "white man" he was warring with at the time, engraved on his helmet, was a talisman for good luck. Like a modern day man wearing a white Sox hat to a ball game, I know men have their weird superstitions about stuff like that. Which would also lead one to believe that there had been previous contact with the "European white man" in order to be familiar enough with the characteristics to replicate them in this fashion. Just a theory. If a thing must be done, it must be done with
grace.

Don't feel bad Lady Sicily, I just barely checked this post out now myself. I was thinking along a different line. I am suprised that Whyte Eagle
did'nt speculate this since he is a Latter Day Saint. Depending on your beliefs, there was another ancient people in America a long time ago. Some would
call them Nephites and Lamanites. You would find out about them in the Book of Mormon. Some would liken them to native American Indians. These people came from
the Middle Eastern countries long ago. They would have brought with them, these middle eastern/African cultures including art and living styles. I thought the
guy on the horse looked similar to Egyptian.

Am I the only fool (maybe) who doesn't know the Book of Mormon?
Every time you folks reference it I am so lost - I was going to change my name to Lost a lot - but well that is already taken.......
Well, I'm lost when you all talk about most things as well........But I am trying to learn! More reading in my future I see...... |

I'll tell you what Tnwoods. When I have some time and are'nt so darned busy with work & stuff, I'll make a post somewhere on this site that
explains a little bit about the LDS church. It's quite interesting. How do I know about it? I was an active member, even a high priest for about 12 years.
I have only been inactive for the last 3 years. And the reason being, is not because I have anything against The Church. I think their church is awesome.
People have a lot of misconceptions about Mormons. No, the reason for my inactivity is all me.

TN Darlin',
A good place to start is by researching Joseph Smith from Missouri. Knowing his story will not only help you to grasp the ideas behind the book later, but it will also help you see his and his church's connection to some or shall I say several of the topics on this board. Good Luck, have fun! Lady Sicily

Ah - you called me darlin'

I am so touched (and not in the evil bad way...LOL) But you are kind of cute - so maybe....LMAO
Really - I have a hard enough time trying to keep up with the Bible. Everyone seems to know all the "quotes". Well I don't! I am constantly looking stuff up to see what the heck everyone is talking about! As for the LDS - I really know nothing. I do want to learn - because I do think it is all tied in together.... but man am I a dumb SOB right now when it comes to it. And I really don't want to spend the next 10 years studying scripture to figure it out - I'll die of old age first! I need the readers digest version! A basic "what happened here".....don't know if I can get that though. I do know that Steve Young was the second best quarterback the 49's ever had (behind Montana) - but I am also originally from SF. That is my entire knowledge of LDS........Steve Young!.....LOL Some one please enlighten me. |
|||
Lady Sicily |
OK TN! I have decided to | ||
|
help you even though you said I was only "kind of cute"
Anyway....I have in the past looked at many web-sites for a bit of history of Joseph Smith. Now keep in mind I am not an LSD so my knowledge is limited. There are those here who are much more expert than I. However, I like researching stuff, so I can try to help from that angle anyway. So went back and looked through the things I have read and this one seemed the most informative while remaining brief, as I would hate for you to "die of old age" before you finished the article. I recognised the image right away having been fascinated by the Sutton Hoo treasure since I was a child. I might be being a bit dense but aren't you guys
missing something blindingly obvious...a North American Native/Indian on a horse on an artifact dating c800 ?? A quick Google produced this... (I only copied
part of the article as it was mainly about dogs)
AMERICAN INDIANS HAD PLENTY OF DOGS, BUT SPANIARDS INTRODUCED HORSES TO CONTINENTBy Dallas Bogan Reprinted with Permission from Dallas Bogan. This article was published in the LaFollette Press. When the Spaniards first penetrated into the continent of North America the only domesticated animal found was the dog. Some western tribes
assert that their ancestors had the horse long before the white man was seen, but it is more probable that the Indian pony long extensively used by the tribes
on the plains is descended from the animals brought over by the Spaniards. When Cortez and DeSoto invaded the continent they found no horses, wild or
domesticated. The Indians who had in South America domesticated the Llama, the alpaca and the dog, knew nothing of the horse and were astonished at the sight
of the strange animals, which the strangers rode. The horses abandoned by DeSoto near the Texas border are believed to be the progenitors of all the wild
horses of North America. These horses, running wild, flourished and increased greatly, showing how well the country was adapted to their needs."

I have mentioned this elsewhere but
Firstly I must say that I am convinced of the existence of civilizations before ours, and by "ours" I mean the whole span of recorded history from Sumer to the present day. I think the myths and legends that recount the doings of the "gods" are accounts of events that happened in those pre-existing civilizations. I believe they had advanced technologies that are refered to in the ancient tales (the flying vimanas of Hindu literature for example). So I had that mind-set when I read the Book of Mormon. I found the following inexplicable technologies: 1. Holgraphic projections/records - read the account of the "angel" appearing to Smith. 2. Submarines - 3.Mobile phone/text messaging/satelite navigation technology - the device given by God to guide them on their travels, on which they received messages from on high and directions. 4. Electric Light bulbs illuminated by "the power of god" so they could see in the submarines. 5. Computer discs - the plates on which the texts were stored 6. Computing devices - the Umin and Thurin (I think that's spelt correctly) that were needed to decipher the plates (my computer is 'ummin away to itself at the moment). Something very strange was going on. I would like some comment on these (possibly very daft) ideas. |
